I agree with you in many aspects. I don't mean to say we all should put all focus on energy. By emphasis I seem to imply that one sector at the expense of others might save us. We should not create a lemmings effect where all rush off the cliff like…

It is exciting and interesting, it is about better managing of resources, it is about doing things better in our life time. The town I live in needs to recover and re-invent itself and bring the alternative energy industry into it.

green in Ohio is different than green in California

Here is my complaint. Every time I see an Internet picture posted of greenness in Ohio it is mostly pictures of greenness in California. We have got to make some progress and then show Ohio greenness. Greenness according to Ohio!

Perhaps we in our zeal to sell greenness don't want to emphasize that we in Ohio don't get as much sun as California and our wind is not as great as in the plains state. Facing the reality of the resources we have in Ohio should spark in us a level of creative energy t… Continue

the real green view obscured by a virtual forest of virtual trees

I thought I've seen it all. First the gas company tries to get me to buy insurance to cover damage to buried gas lines on my property. The gov buys guzzlers so you can buy cars that guzzle a little less, effectively slowing down the adoption of really fuel efficient cars another 5-10 years. Let's not get into energy credits, carbon credits, gee, you can sling credits and do nothing yourself. I got a letter from an electric utility saying I can buy my electricity from a green electric producer in… Continue

Stevia in my coffee, Sugar in my car!

Years ago I bumped into a small plant called stevia. I'm sure many of you have heard of it. It is a really good sugar alternative. Wouldn't it be grand if we all would put stevia in our tea, coffee and cakes and let the whole sugarcane industry supply the bio-fuel market?

There is a disturbance in the force. Oh, that's my backyard nuke.

Hi all, was checking out ZDnet, they are running an article about a small nuclear reactor that could be buried in your neighborhood. It's here.

A nuke has always been a geothermal kind of thing. Make heat, steam, turn generator, produce electricity. This thing seems to make electricity without the generator. I almost don't want to know how? This is scary! They are using the "clean" energy word, again. What do you think?

is the image of wind energy the right one?

I myself have always thought of the Dutch and windmills together. These days everywhere you look on the net the picture of tall pin-wheels like phone poles across deserted American plains. A lake with arrays of pin-wheels or a farm. Who hasn't had these dreams or views. But I think thi… Continue

Arnold,
I have applied for friendship with you as you are obviously well informed on the environment and I will read your blog. My site is Renewable Energy Sources at http://squidoo.com/solarpower5 and my blog is http://techdiplomacy.blogspot.com, the site is the best, lots of information on renewable energy resources, lot of pictures of environmentally friendly buildings, electric cars, electric bullet trains, etc. I think you'll enjoy all of the information. The blog is well...a blog and the focus is the environment. Hope to hear from you.

Indeed, I've always thought that to be self sustaining, it must be done through 'self'. Waiting for the profit cannibals to 'self-sustain you' makes no sense, nor will it ever happen. Cannabas/Hemp...same thing, but the powers that be have created such a 'stigma' in our society about it that sadly its a taboo subject, at least for some. You might be surprised at those scientific statistics now, but in any case, no one seems to be looking or talking about local or small solutions that could be done throughout the communities of America when they need to be. The larger solutions can be left up to the big guys like Pickens and those who have the support to see them through. Honestly, I think there's even better energy out there but somehow it seems to go nowhere, and I've been watching that for 50 years now. A very strange phenomena!

Delete Comment Hi Arnold and thank you for your comment. It makes me feel good that someone actually reads my posts...;~)) Yes, this is so ironic that people don't wish to read it, or should I say face it. If people would only look at the history, look around for the simple solutions that are right in front of them, it could certainly relieve some of the burden. Like you say, we pay to have things hauled off that we need to be self saficient...like grass clippings. Prohibition really was the Mother of all Cons, and continues even today. Though yet another Prohibition came in called "Cannabis", which has a thousand needed uses, including Alcohol, but still prohibited! This isn't the Mother of cons in replay...is it? Hmmmm..... Somethings Rotten in Denmark!! It surprises me that more members haven't commented on this post. Oh...and please excuse me for saying the "evil" Cannabis word. Oh the shame...the shame! How unusual that that was outlawed in 1929 also. Hmmmm....now something really smells!! Have a great week my friend. Ron G.
