Great News - At least something we have some new laws

Just read that the senate passed the energy bill. It was watered down. No tax breaks for solar. No new taxes on oil. No mandates for % of alternative energy. But the requirement to raise MPG to 35 is good. Maybe they'll do more next yr?

Not with the present economy. Only the Green Elite, or the well heeled entrepreneur for the most part can afford higher energy costs without any significant tax breaks. When the govt gives more incentives to add solar panels, rain barrels, etc....will this movement gain significant momentum.

I think that the 35MPG is an average for a fleet. it is not per car. So some cars are going to have to be electric to get way more than 35MPG to average out with the gas guzzler SUVs

I'm kind of dissapointed what kind of energy policy is that. What if they just can't make the internal combustion motor get 35 MPG then what do they just get a pass? Thats what they found out when they just passed the clean air bill. Wasn't that easy to impliment couldn't just shut down the power plant had to compromise and their compromise is the scrubbers all coal plants had to put in to comply with regulations. And they passed that cost on to you and me. So we pay either way if the car companies come out with 35MPG cars I imagine they will find a way to make them cost more for whats required.

Welcome Ryan! I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the new laws... even if they aren't much. :) Stop by the discussion forum! Say hi to everyone!
