The US added 10 Gigawatts of new wind power generation in 2009. Texas led the way with 2,239 Megawatts but 27 other states also added to their wind generation capacity last year. Four US states now generate more than 10% of their electricity from wind power. Iowa gets 20% of its electricity from wind, followed by South Dakota (13%), North Dakota (12%) and Minnesota (11%).
“Wind power projects accounted for 39 percent of all new electric generating capacity added in the U.S. in 2009,"…

There are so many definitions of what a green job is, that it's now getting to the point where it's difficult to know what a green job is. And the difficulty is increased by the lack of clear and agreed upon definitions of a green company and the categories of green products or services (is nuclear clean? is "clean coal" really clean?).
So to add to the confusion, I'll add my 2 cents to the discussion. A green job is:
- A job at an association or non-profit engaged in enviro

Many are wondering why President Obama has not used the environmental catastrophe in the gulf to beat up on the oil companies or to advance game-changing energy and environmental policies. The answer is simple. He is not a Green revolutionary. He told us during the campaign, and he continues to tell us today, that oil and coal are at the foundation of his energy policies.
The President still believes that deepwater drilling for oil is essential t…

The Obama administration has promised the creation of millions of green jobs in the next few years. Well, it hasn’t started yet… these jobs are nowhere to be seen. And I know what I’m talking about: I’ve been looking for them for over a year.
I have to tell you I’m not a job seeker. I’m self employed and the creator of
The Green Job Bank. That’s why I’m looking for green jobs. There are basically two types of places you find them online: a gr…

I just read a study on renewableenergyworld.com about the amount of untapped hydro-electric power that is already available in the United States and it is stagering. We have over 80,000 lakes with man made dams in this country. The study pointed out that we could easily produce 5,140 MW of energy and 159,000 jobs in the North East quadrent of the United States, alone, by retrofitting these dams with already proven turbine technology. I have no idea how many coal fired plants that could shutter,…

U.S. solar electric generation capacity increased by 37 percent in 2009, showing strong growth despite the Great Recession. According to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the growth was the result of increased investment in both photovoltaic and concentrating solar power. It was driven primarily by strong demand in the residential and utility-scale markets.
Solar water heating and pool heating also grew in 2009, by about 10%. Not too bad given the overall state of the ec…

The US Chamber of Commerce may be opposed to climate change and energy legislation, but that does not mean that it speaks for the entire US business community. In fact, some of the largest companies in the US are emphatically in favor of proposed legislation to address climate change and energy.
This week more than 200 businesses in targeted states around the country called on key Senators to pass clean energy and climate legislation upon return to Washington, D.C. In the letters to S…
